Some of you may know that Pumpkin our cat is a troublesome little beast. Since May he's been having problems with his bladder and at times has been finding it difficult to wee. Unlike humans when they get cystitis cats can not be treated with a simple dose of antibiotics. It's much more serious than that. Life threatening.
Pumpkin has had this problem twice in two months. Both times he was rushed to the vets during the night. The symptoms weren't clear and it wasn't until he was found laying on the bathroom floor barely able to move, that we realised that something was wrong. Each time his treatment and hospital care has cost us £500 and that's not even counting the others things we've tried to ensure that he doesn't get it again. So far we've tried:
1. Investing in a cat water fountain, where the water is purified and runs down a dome. Apparently cats like to drink running water and if he drinks more then this decreases the chances of the urine infection. We've only seen him drink out of it a couple of times but we are persistent!
2. Mixing tuna with water. We started calling this his 'tuna cocktail' this again encourages him to intake more water.
3. Not changing his type of cat litter. This might stress him out.
4. Changing his diet to a prescription diet which costs a small fortune.
5. Investing in a product called Feliway which you plug into a socket. This is supposed to reduce stress.
But over the past few days he's started weeing all over the house again, which is a sign that it could be happening again. It's only 5/6 weeks since he was last in hospital. For his sake and ours (not to mention the bank balance) I pray that another trip to the vets is not imminent.

If you have a covered litter box, try removing the lid. Apparently (and counter-intuitively), some cats don't like being enclosed. It's worked for a couple of friends of mine in similar situations. Hopefully Pumpkin will be okay. xoxo
ah thanks. No his litter box is not covered but we are off to the vets this afternoon so we will see x

Awww God love him. How is he now? This happened to a lesser extent with my male cat when we moved over to England. He was never hospitalized, just caused us a lot of worry so I understand how you're feeling. We used the Feliway plug in which did seem to help. Other than that, we gave him a bit more freedom outside the house which seemed to reduce his stress a bit. Sending Pumpkin lots of cuddles xx
thanks for all your comments - he seems to be doing fine, we let him out more now and have decided to just chill out a bit more and not be so paranoid!
